Mi-kyung Kim, classical soprano opera singer

Welcome to my official website, Mi-kyung Kim (김미경), classical opera singer. I am a lyrical soprano singer. As a Franco-Korean classical vocalist based in Paris, I perform wherever I am invited, most often in private settings, in France, the United States, Korea, and other parts of Europe and the world. Beyond my career as a solo concert artist, I specialize in luxury weddings, elegant ceremonies, corporate or private events in prestigious venues.

This site provides information about my biography, pictures taken during various performances, video clips and audio tracks recorded live or in studio, notices of some of my past concerts, details on how to contact me, practical ways to book me for private events, festivals, opera or sacred music concerts, as well as soloist performances with a chorus, for a private recital or a religious office such as a wedding mass... or any other non religious ceremony.

For a unique touch and a nod to my roots, I suggest this Korean melody with a religious inspiration, which I hold especially dear. It is a musical setting of Psalm 23, "The Lord is My Shepherd" (여호와는 나의 목자시니) by composer Woon-Young NA (나운영):

 

Live and studio albums

Audio extracts recorded during live concerts have been bundled into a first album entitled Concerts Parisiens: melodie, lied, opera released in June 2010. A second album entitled Live in St Amarin: De Summertime à West Side Story followed in March 2012. Based on jazz, gospel and Broadway musical theater, it was recorded during a recital I gave in the 2011 edition of the "Festival Jazz Amarinois" in Saint-Amarin, France.

Then in May 2014, I came back to a classical repertoire inspired by my German period and the numerous concerts I had given in Germany. I released a studio album called Lieder forever: Schubert, Mozart, Schumann, Strauss. I am accompanied on the piano by my friend, the marvelous French-Georgian pianist Olga Bakhutashvili.

Finally, in early 2025, I released an exclusively online album of Christian hymns titled Soothing Hymns – Baumes apaisants de mon enfance. This project is especially close to my heart, as it allows me to share these beautiful and inspiring pieces of music that shaped my childhood. For this album, I collaborated with Hye-kyung Kim, also a very dear friend, pianist and composer based in Paris.

 Repertoire -classical and beyond

The site page Repertoire lists the main pieces I have sung. I focus mainly on the Classical and Romantic periods. My area of interest covers widely opera (Mozart, Bellini, Puccini, Rossini, Gounod, Bizet...), operetta (Johann Strauss, Lehar...), oratorio and sacred music (Bach, Haydn, Mozart, Schubert, Franck, Fauré, Brahms...), German lied (Richard Strauss, Schumann, Wolf, Mozart...), French and Italian melodie (Fauré, Poulenc, Debussy, Ravel, Duparc, Hahn, Tosti, Bellini, Parisotti...). Beyond classical music, I also sing pieces of jazz, gospel, chansons as well as extracts of famous musicals or even pop music. Ed Sheeran's Perfect for instance is a very popular piece for wedding ceremonies.
